FooPets Breeds and History

FooPets started 1 January 2008 as GoPokey, a FaceBook application developed by Dr. Ron Hornbaker. The application started with a German Shepherd Dog, a Siberian Husky, a Rottweiler, Labradors in three colors and a Chihuahua. Later in 2008 were introduced a Yorkie and a 'Marley' Labrador, featuring the movie "Marley and me". The first cat was a Tuxedo Mix, later followed by a Black Mix and a Tabby mix. By that time, they already had moved GoPokey to a new technical platform and a new website: www.foopets.com

It appeared, that the dogs except for the Marley could not display right on the new platform. Therefore new specimens were introduced. Starting 2009 the old models of the German Shepherd Dog, the Siberian Husky and the Labradors were not available anymore. In March 2009 all the Yorkies and Chihuahuas were redone, they then lost their features from GoPokey Days. Sometimes you are lucky to find a Yorkie or Chihuahua with pictures of those features: the funny ball catch or the different bow that the Pokey Yorkie used to wear. The old German Shepherds, Huskies, Rottweilers and Labradors we call Pokeys, because they still look the same and they still act the same as during GoPokey Days. They are a rare and valuable population, because no new specimens are given out. You can find old Pokeys in the Adoption Center. Sometimes you find second generation Pokeys, because there has been a time that members were able to breed with their Pokey dogs. You can recognize a Pokey at its red-yellow frisbee! Foos have a green frisbee.

Since 2009, FooPets has introduced many dog and cat breeds in a realistic and beautiful virtual version. Until about March 2009 it was possible to change your pet and keep the same pet id-number. Therefore, you can now find very old specimens of a breed, older than that breed was introduced, for example: Kitty Dog, a Weimaraner who used to be a Black kitten and therefore has an older pet id than the very first Weimaraner dog.

Below you find a list of all FooPets breeds and the dates that they were introduced.

In the year 2010 many new features were introduced on FooPets. Among others, there now are a walking feature and a wide screen. However, the Pokeys and the Marley cannot display in widescreen mode because it technically was not possible to give these old animals a walking feature. All the other animals can! Enjoy FooPets!
