Good BMI for pets: not larger than 15
Help us with our BMI research in pets
 |
Many pets are too fat. This gives the same health risks as for humans. Although not generallly
accepted yet in the medical vetenerian world, recently several scientific researches have proved that cats, small and medium
size dogs should not have a BMI larger than 15. About the minimum BMI for pets is not much known yet. After having done
some empirical research myself, I came to the conclusion that for certain pets, dependent on their structure and breed, a BMI of
10 is already fine! As there hasn't done any decent research yet about the optimal BMI for pets, I started a research myself, by
this website. The goal is to collect bmi data of many pets of many breeds living around the world. Would you like to help
me with my research? Then click here to fill in the survey about your pet. It is
anonymous.
How do you measure the BMI in your cat or dog? Easiest way is that one person holds the pet in the way as shown
on the picture, while another person measures the height of the pet. Then you weight yourself and write down your weight.
Take your pet in your arms and weight yourself again. The difference is the weight of your pet. Now you can enter the
height and weight of your pet into our BMI Calculator and the calculator will do the rest for you.

My little dog Bathine has a BMI of 13.7 (her metric height and weight are 64 cm and 5.6 kg)
so her BMI is just perfect! My vet even told me, that he has rarely seen such a healthy, joyful, fit senior dog as my
Bathine. Bathine soon will be 13 years old! How I keep Bathine so healthy, fit and satisfied, you can read in the
daily menu for pets.
